A. For vinyl and chain-link fence installations, we use heavy-duty 2 3/8″ galvanized steel posts with a 4 mm wall thickness (Schedule 40) — the same type used in commercial fencing. These round steel posts are built to withstand Ottawa’s harsh winter weather and provide unmatched strength and durability for decades. Many other contractors use 1 7/8″ posts with wall thicknesses ranging from 1 mm to 3.2 mm (light wall)
